Stakeholders Strengthen Capacity for Community-Led HIV Prevention Through HPAT Training.

The National Training of Trainers (ToT) on the HIV Prevention Ambassador Training and Toolkit (HPAT) to Support Lenacapavir (LEN) PrEP Rollout was successfully held from 30th June to 2nd July 2026 in Abuja, Nigeria.

The training was convened by Root to Rise with funding support from the Elton John AIDS Foundation (EJAF), in strategic partnership with the National AIDS, Viral Hepatitis and STIs Control Programme (NASCP) and the National Agency for the Control of AIDS (NACA).

The three-day workshop brought together participants from government agencies, civil society organizations, community-based organizations, peer networks, and implementing partners involved in HIV prevention programming across the country. The training aimed to build a cadre of skilled trainers capable of supporting community education, demand creation, and informed decision-making around HIV prevention options.

Sessions focused on strengthening participant’s understanding of the HIV prevention landscape, including Oral PrEP, long-acting injectable Cabotegravir (CAB-LA), and Lenacapavir (LEN) PrEP. Participants were also equipped with facilitation and community engagement skills to effectively serve as HIV Prevention Ambassadors within their respective communities and organizations.

The training forms part of ongoing efforts to support Nigeria’s national LEN PrEP rollout by ensuring communities are informed, empowered, and connected to a comprehensive range of HIV prevention services. Through strengthened community-led advocacy and demand generation, the initiative is expected to contribute significantly to expanding access to HIV prevention and reducing new HIV infections across the country
