President Muhammadu Buhari has approved the appointment of Dr Gambo Gumel Aliyu as the Director-General of National Agency for the Control of AIDS (NACA).
This was announced by the Permanent Secretary General Services, Office of Secretary of the Government of the Federation (OSGF), Olusegun Adekunle who said the appointment is for an initial term of (4) four years and takes effect from 26th of June, 2019, the statement reads.
The new DG is an Epidemiologist and a Public Health specialist, he was the Chief of Party for the Nigeria Indicator and Impact Survey (NAIIS) until his appointment. He attended Ahmadu Bello University of Zaria, Nigeria, where he obtained Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) in 1995, later proceeded to University of Maryland, to obtain PhD in Epidemiology in 2012.
Dr Gambo Gumel Aliyu takes over from the Dr Sani Aliyu whose tenure runs until July 2020 but resigned as DG NACA to pursue other aspirations.
