INTRODUCTION TO MDG PROGRAMME ON HIV/AIDS
Recognizing the centrality of poverty alleviation to the attainment of the MDGs targets and HIV prevention, care and support, NACA through the MDG project supported the training and grant making for vulnerable women. Under this intervention, a total of 78 vulnerable women were empowered to establish income generating activities (IGA). The empowerment included 3 months training in vocational skills, donation of equipment for their respective chosen vocations and take-off grant for each trainee. This intervention specifically supported widows, displaced women and households, female sex workers and households affected by HIV. Summary of skills acquisition supported were: Tailoring (22 persons); knitting and soap/detergent making (8 persons); catering (25 persons); beads making (4 persons); hair dressing (14 persons); tie and dye (5 persons).
