DG NACA PAYS COURTESY VISIT TO THE GOVERNOR OF LAGOS STATE

Lagos, Nigeria – May 14, 2025

The Director General of the National Agency for the Control of AIDS (NACA), Dr. Temitope Ilori, along with other Directors from the agency  paid a courtesy visit to the Governor of Lagos State, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu. The visit served to acknowledge and reinforce the strong partnership between NACA and the Lagos State Government in combating HIV/AIDS and strengthening the state’s healthcare infrastructure.

Dr. Ilori conveyed her sincere appreciation to Governor Sanwo-Olu for his administration’s resolute commitment to enhancing the health system in Lagos State. A key highlight of this commitment, she noted, is the Ilera Eko health insurance scheme, which continues to significantly broaden access to quality healthcare services for residents, including crucial support for People Living with HIV (PLHIV). The NACA DG further commended the state’s impactful policy of providing free antenatal care and delivery services, a vital intervention that directly supports the Prevention of Mother-to-Child Transmission (PMTCT) of HIV.

The courtesy visit also provided an opportunity for Dr. Ilori to formally thank Governor Sanwo-Olu for Lagos State’s gracious agreement to host the 7th National Council on AIDS (NCA) in 2025. This significant national event will bring together key stakeholders from across the country to deliberate on strategies and policies for a more effective HIV response.

NACA affirmed its eagerness to continue its robust collaboration with Lagos State. The agency looks forward to further joint efforts in advancing Nigeria’s national and global health targets, particularly in the ongoing fight against HIV/AIDS. Governor Sanwo-Olu, in his response, reiterated Lagos State’s unwavering support for NACA and the national HIV response, pledging continued investment and collaboration to ensure the health and well-being of all Lagosians.
