Overcoming Disruption – Nigeria Rallies for World AIDS Day 2025

World AIDS Day 2025

Abuja, Nigeria – November 24, 2025

As the global community prepares to observe World AIDS Day on December 1st, we are gearing up for a week-long series of high-impact events under the powerful national theme, “Overcoming Disruptions; Sustaining Nigeria’s HIV Response.”

The commemoration, which starts this week, serves as a crucial platform to raise awareness, show solidarity with people living with HIV/AIDS (PLHIV), and renew the nation’s commitment to achieving the global goal of ending the AIDS epidemic as a public health threat by 2030.

This year’s national theme perfectly aligns with the global call to action, which acknowledges the serious funding and service disruptions threatening decades of progress. Nigeria aims to use this week to showcase the resilience of its communities and advocate for sustainable domestic ownership of the HIV response.

Purpose and Key Objectives

The commemoration’s goal is to promote nationwide awareness, strengthen advocacy, mobilize stakeholders, and highlight both the progress made and the challenges that persist in Nigeria’s HIV response.

Our key objectives for the 2025 World AIDS Day are:

  • To raise awareness and vigorously promote prevention, testing, and treatment services for HIV.

  • To honor and support lives lost and stand in unwavering solidarity with every person currently living with HIV.
