Background
• The need to involve the private sector in the response to HIV/AIDS was recognised
• November 2003 - NACA brought on board a Special Advisor, Public-Private Partnerships (PPPs) to facilitate greater private sector participation and engender PPPs in the fight against AIDS in Nigeria

A lot of advocacy was undertaken to different stakeholders:

PPP Forum On HIV/AIDS
NACA facilitated the formation of the Public- Private Partnerships Forum on HIV/AIDS in Nigeria:
Established to coordinate various stakeholders in the response of the business community to the HIV/AIDS epidemic
Composed of Public and Private Sector stakeholders involved in the Business Sector response to HIV/AIDS
Makes for better collaboration of the stakeholders as well as for proper coordination and effectiveness
PPP Situational Assessment
NACA (in collaboration with ILO /UNAIDS and other members of the PPP forum) facilitated a study on: Public-Private Partnerships and Private Sector HIV/AIDS Response in Nigeria - A Situation Assessment. It revealed:
The need for greater private sector response (including SMEs) and expanded PPPs at all levels
The need for accountability, equity, shared vision / trust as well as providing information & Capacity Building on HIV/AIDS to private sector

Interactive Touch Screens on HIV/AIDS which offer voice interaction in English, Pidgin, Ibo, Yoruba and Hausa
Skills Acquisition: Over 70 PLWAs trained in embroidery, soap & candle making, etc.
Supported establishment of 6 VCT Centres (MTN renovated the sites and provided laboratory equipment & consumables)
Economic Empowerment for Women: Pilot programme successfully implemented; 20% of beneficiaries are PLWAs
Capacity Building: Training provided for 3,000 Youth Peer Educators, and 60 Teachers from 60 Secondary Schools in the area of HIV/AIDS
Information, Education & Communication (IEC): HIV/AIDS Question & Answer booklets and several other materials produced and distributed
PMTCT: Support to 15 women on PMTCT programme in 3 sites by MTN
Over N 430 million leveraged to date
