The Director General of the National Agency for the Control of AIDS (NACA) Prof. John Idoko on Friday 20th January 2012 handed over six project vehicles to one of the Global Fund Sub-recipients, ActionAid, under the Global Fund grant management by NACA.

The brief ceremony was witnessed by partners and other stakeholders including Director General, Nigeria Institute of Medical Research (NIMR) Prof. Innocent Ujah (MNI) and NIMR Director, Research Prof. Oni Idigbe.
In his remarks, the NACA DG said that the vehicles are part of efforts by the Agency in ensuring that integration and decentralisation of services to the rural community areas in Nigeria is assured. The collaboration among the different partners working in different service areas will assure the integration of services while the vehicles will help in reaching the rural communities to offer services to Nigerians in those parts of the country. He further said that over two hundred Primary Health Care centres have been renovated, equipped and have had their staff trained to provide quality services.

Receiving the vehicles, ActionAid’s Head of Human Resources, Mrs FunmilayoOyefusi, thanked the Principal Recipient, NACA, for the project vehicles and stated that this gesture will ensure wider coverage of services in rural community areas, which is necessary to achieve zero new infections and Elimination of Mother-to-Child Transmission of HIV/AIDS in Nigeria.
The vehicles are expected to be used by selected networks of organisation through which ActionAid implements her intervention activities across rural community areas in Nigeria.
